Character Sketch Final Draft: Family Ties
“Don't spend all your money in one place now,” my grandpa says every time he sees my money or when he gives it to me. My grandpa is famous in our family for saying that. When I was little, I would always love to go over to my grandparents’ house. Grandpa and I would play checkers, cards, and catch non-stop. He was too good at checkers for me to beat him usually, and I probably only won 10 times out of like the 500 that we played. I still learned a lot by watching him and playing against him. He would always watch WWE and I loved to watch it with him. He was a stud at pool, too--he almost never missed a shot. From his famous sayings like “Save your pennies for a rainy day,” which means don't spend all your money in case you need some money for an emergency, to his raw talent at all the classic games.
He has always been there in time of need, a source of laughter, advice about girls, and family. He has been through a lot growing up and throughout his life of 81 years now. He is amazing at bowling too, and beats me by at least 100 pins every time, and I'm a really good bowler also considering the fact that he's the one that taught me how to bowl and all the techniques involved. He would always take me everywhere he could whether it was to the store, bowling, restaurants, baseball games and so many more events and places and at the time I felt kind of spoiled. I appreciate him so much and admire the fact that he is such a great man of character who always puts the needs of others before himself. He always make sure to have time for the people and things that are important to his family. He is always honest and you can always count on him to be there for you. He is the funniest man I will ever meet, and I can’t thank God enough for having him in my life.
Purpose Statement: My purpose is to show that my grandpa has taught me a lot, in a lot of different aspects of life.
Extended Metaphor Kenning Poem Final Draft:
Pigskin
My life is a football
Sometimes I’m sailing
Coasting through my day through the air
Without any real problem with ease
Sometimes I score a touchdown
Spiking the ball in the endzone
An exclamation point to getting a new car
Rolling on the field after a punt
As a merry go round
Life always being in turmoil
Standing on the sideline waiting to be put into play
Starting something new wondering where it will take me
A kick or punt isnt promised to go straight
Just like I am pushed or forced to do something
Not knowing the outcome
